However, any artist will tell you that is not the case, and they have been the cause of much frustration for people who have tried to draw them.

This step-by-step guide on how to draw a fist will help you with this tricky subject.
How to Draw A Fist
Step 1
In this first step of our tutorial on drawing a fist, we will wait to start drawing the final image.
Instead, we’ll draw a shape to guide you as you draw the final hand.
We recommend using a light-colored pencil for this step, as you will erase these lines later.
Using the reference image we provided as a guide, carefully draw the shape with the pencil. It is divided into two sections, and the left section will be much wider than the right one.
Once you’ve drawn these shapes with your pencil, we can move on to step 2 of your first drawing.
Step 2
We’ll use the pencil guide you drew to draw your fist in the previous step to add some fingers to your image.
We still recommend using a pencil for this step, as you will draw lines across your fingers later.
First, draw four curved, sausage-like shapes inside the left shape you drew in the previous step.
After drawing the fingers, use the pen to draw a curved rectangular shape to the right of the guide shape. This will help you draw the wrist in a future step.
Step 3
In the next few steps, we’ll start erasing the pencil guides you drew and reviewing them with the pen.
We removed the pencil guide shapes for this image from our How to Draw a Fist guide to show you what it would look like without them. However, I recommend keeping them until the next step.
Once you have a good idea of how you will proceed, we can move on to step 4 of your first drawing.
Step 4
In this part of your first drawing, we’ll start with the final lines and erase some of the pencil lines.
Using what you drew in the previous steps, carefully add a thumb going over the four fingers you already have.
The thumb then descends in a curved line toward the wrist. Another curved line rises from the bottom four fingers to the bottom of the wrist.
Speaking of the wrist, we’ll draw it with straight lines coming out of the hand. Now you can start seeing the die-cutting!
Carefully review the lines with a darker-colored pen or pencil, using the reference images we provided to ensure you are crossing the correct lines.
When you are satisfied, you can erase all the pencil lines. However, let the pen ink dry completely before you start erasing!
Step 5
You’re almost ready to enjoy coloring, but first, we’ll add some final details in this step of our guide to drawing a fist.
Now if you look at your hand, you will see many lines on it, and they only become clearer as you move them to different positions. Start by drawing two large curved lines across your palm.
Next, draw smaller lines to show the top knuckles. Remember to draw a nail on your thumb too!

You could draw a cute ring on one of your fingers or a sweater sleeve for some ideas!
Step 6
We’ve reached the final step of your first drawing, and it’s fun! You can bring your drawing to life with some pretty colors for this part.
This step allows you to show your creativity and have fun completing your amazing drawing.
You have many options on how to color it! You could make it look like your hand or use one of your favorite colors to finish it.
It’s also fun with the artistic media you choose for your image.
There are painting options like acrylic paint and watercolors that you could use, or maybe you could use crayons, colored pencils, or pencils.
